Job summary

The City of Carlsbad seeks a Paramedic Firefighter to provide basic and advanced life support in accordance with local EMS policies. You will respond to emergencies, operate and maintain fire and medical equipment, and support training and public education initiatives.

Requirements include State of CA EMT-Paramedic certification, Firefighter I Academy or equivalent, and a HS diploma. This is an entry into a multifaceted public safety role with cross-functional duties in EMS and fire suppression.

Qualifications

• EMT-P with CA eligibility and current paramedic certification.
• Completion of Firefighter I Academy or equivalent preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent and related coursework.
• Experience in EMS and firefighting is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Responds to medical emergencies.
• Conducts or assists in extrication of trapped persons.
• Performs primary and secondary physical assessments.
• Administers medications by various routes.
• Operates ambulance and related equipment.
• Performs CPR and airway management.
• Teaches fire safety and participates in public education.
