Job summary

The County of Los Angeles Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates for Emergency Fire Fighter Trainee (Paramedic) vacancies. Under an emergency order, hires may be made for up to 90 days with a path to permanent County employment.

Those who pass the 90-day assessment may be considered for permanent appointment as Fire Fighter Paramedic and may be eligible for a paramedic bonus upon permanent appointment.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• CA EMT-Paramedic (EMT-P) license active for at least six months beyond appointment.
• CPAT certificate required.
• 12 months of full‑time 9‑1‑1 paramedic experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide EMT-Paramedic level emergency medical care.
• Monitor ECG, defibrillation, and other life‑support interventions.
• Establish IV/IO access and administer medications as prescribed.
• Assess airways and provide oxygen therapy per protocol.
• Perform advanced airway management and ventilation.
• Participate in firefighting training and rescue operations as needed.
• Work in a team environment to deliver patient care in emergencies and non‑emergency situations.
