Qualifications

• Paramedic license in state of practice: Required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association: Required.
• AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification: Required.
• Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification (EVOC) or equivalent: Preferred.
• Valid Driver's License (DL) and must be at least 21 years of age or older: Required.
• Facility Specific License/Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required.
• AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS: Required.

Responsibilities

• Provides individualized care plan for patient presentation according to acceptable medical practice standards, issued standing orders, online medical control and department policies and procedures.
• Provides emergency care in the pre-hospital environment.
• Provides fundamental components of patient comfort, safety, privacy and respect within the perioperative setting.
• Identifies and develops areas of expertise within the surgical specialties.
• Conducts emergency medical classes as requested by department manager.
• Administers oral and intravenous medications.
• Intubates patients or performs surgical airway insertion (cricothyrotomy), and places catheters for venous access such as central venous lines.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

This department provides triage, treatment, and support for trauma and emergency patients of all ages in an acute care setting. Hospital Total Bed Count: 25; Unit Bed Count: 13; Staffing: Days: 3, Mids: 4, Nights: 3. Medication System: Pyxis, Omnicell, Other EMR System: Cerner. Pharmacy Hours: On-site 0730‑1730, phone support 24/7. Unit Secretary on Unit/MT: yes, 24/7 Intensivist: Phone only 24/7 Hospitalist: 0700 – 1900 on-site, 1900 – 0700 phone. Special Equipment Used on This Unit: Glidescope, Thoravent. Special Procedures Performed on This Unit: Cardioversion, closed reductions. Scrubs: Navy.

Job Summary

• Provides emergency care in the pre-hospital environment.
• Provides advanced-level medical care including evaluation, treatment and stabilization to the ill and injured.
• Has a comprehensive knowledge base and is able to diagnose and provide care for a broad range of medical emergencies.
