Job summary

Mercy EMS is seeking a skilled Paramedic (EMT-P) to provide direct patient care under the Medical Director and Mercy EMS protocols. You will assess, stabilize, evacuate, and transport patients per Mercy System goals, while also performing clerical and maintenance duties as needed.

Required licensure includes Paramedic (EMT-P) and a valid driving license; Hazmat awareness, ACLS at hire, and PALS within 6 months are required or expected.

Qualifications

  • Licensure: Paramedic (EMT-P) license for the state of practice.
  • Certifications/Registration: Hazmat awareness level training, ACLS at hire, PALS within 6 months of hire/transfer.
  • Preferred Licensure: ITLS or equivalent training.
  • Preferred Experience: Background in Emergency Services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, basic and advanced medical rescue.
  • Access, stabilize, evacuate and transport patients to appropriate destinations per Mercy System goals.
  • Perform clerical and maintenance duties as required.
  • Respond quickly to ambulance calls and operate in challenging environments.

Position Details

Licensure: Paramedic (EMT-P) license for the state of practice, Valid driving license.

Experience: Applicants must be at least 19 years of age.

Certifications/Registration: Hazmat awareness level training, ACLS at hire, PALS within 6 months of hire/transfer.

Other: Unimpaired mobility: Must be able to respond quickly to ambulance, must be able to access patients in difficult terrain, must be able to climb stairs, must be able to work in close and dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles, must be able to partner to carry equipment and patients. Must be able to perform strenuous physicalrequirements such as CPR, lifting and moving equipment and patients in a variety of environmental conditions. Must be able toperformsrequired medical skills and techniques. Musthave correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles, must have color acuity adequate fordeterminationof skin and blood color, and must be able to read medication dosages on drug labels and syringes. Must be able to hear and understand information provided by patients, family or bystanders' must be able to hear breath sounds and accurately determine auscultated blood pressures;must be able to differentiate separate conversations in active, distracting environments; must be able to hear and understand radio traffic when responding with lights and sirens. Must be able to speak and enunciate and at a level audible to others in loud conditions, must be able to speak clearly in stressful situations, must be able to verbally communicate with patients, families and other emergency services personnel. Incumbents will be required to successfully satisfy the physical demands of the role. This will include a pre-hire and annual fitness for duty test.

Equipment Used: Mobile and portable communications equipment, Monitor/Defibrillator/Pacer, approved stretcher, stair chair, backboard, scoop type device, variety of bags and kits, assigned ambulance, computer, FAX, printer and other office related equipment.

Preferred Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Licensure: ITLS or equivalent training.

Preferred Experience: Background in Emergency Services.

Preferred Other: In areas where Tactical EMS (TEMS) services are provided, training in TEMS is preferred before allowing participation.
