Job summary

Phelps Health in Missouri is seeking a Paramedic to provide both basic and advanced life support, including comprehensive patient assessment, invasive airway management and cardiac monitoring. You will administer medications, perform RSI when needed, coordinate patient care with the emergency services and hospital teams, and hand off reports to receiving staff with clinical clarity.

Missouri EMT-P license and current BLS, ACLS, PHTLS and PALS are required; one year EMT-P experience is preferred

Qualifications

  • Missouri EMT-P license required.
  • EMT-P certification required (BLS/ACLS/PHTLS/PALS).
  • Graduate of Missouri State approved EMT-P course.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic and advanced life support and comprehensive patient assessment.
  • Perform invasive airway management and cardiac monitoring.
  • Administer medications per protocol.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise EMTs/First Responders.
  • Coordinate patient care with healthcare teams and EMS.
  • Document care on MARF form.
  • Attend trauma scenes and activate Trauma Team.
  • Adhere to infection control and safe patient handling.
  • Communicate reports to receiving facility.

General Summary
  • The Paramedic is responsible for providing both basic and advanced life support, including comprehensive patient assessment, invasive airway management, cardiac monitoring and administration of medications
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assess and reassess patient’s condition and provides rescue interventions appropriately under protocol established by the Medical Director when direct Medical Control is unavailable.
  • Uses critical thinking skills when assessing patient’s needs and planning care.
  • Delegate’s patient care tasks to EMT’s and First Responders within their scope of duties and evaluates their performance.
  • Demonstrated Proficiency in skills such as Cardiac Monitoring with 4 lead and 12 lead, Arrhythmia Interpretation, Transcutaneous Pacing, Defibrillation, Capnography, Endotracheal, Intubation, King Airway Insertion, LMA, Needle Decompression, C-PAP, VAD, IV, Intraosseous Insertion, Defibrillation, Drug Calculations, Medication administration and RSI.
  • Coordinates patient care by effective collaboration with other healthcare team members and emergency service providers.
  • Hands off care of the patient to the receiving facility by giving pertinent and concise reports to the receiving nurse.
  • Efficiently assess Trauma Scenes and activate the Trauma Team appropriately
  • Follows infection control procedures and utilizes safe patient handling and movement techniques and ensures that other team members do so.
  • Documents appropriately and accurately on MARF form.
  • Communicates well with other departments and other emergency services.
Education
  • High School education or equivalent required. Graduate of Missouri State approved EMT-P course required.
Work Experience
  • One year EMT-P experience preferred.
Certification/License
  • Current Missouri EMT-P license required. BLS, ACLS, PHTLS and PALS certifications required. (PHTLS and Class E driver’s license must be obtained within six months of hire.)
Mental/Physical Requirements
  • Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 50 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, walking, sitting, lifting (50 lbs), turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching. Driving for extended periods of time. Dealing with traumatic and stressful situations.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons at times. Frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids. Minimal physical discomfort.
