Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Paramedic to join our integrated EMS team. You will respond to emergencies, deliver advanced prehospital care, start IVs, monitor vitals, and transport patients to facilities while coordinating with ED staff.

This role requires Paramedic certification, NC state or National Registry, and a valid driver's license; high school diploma; 2–3 years experience depending on setting; strong communication and patient care skills.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Experience: 2 years for ED and CCT, 3 years for Event Medicine, required.
  • Licensure/Certification: Paramedic certification or degree, required.
  • National Registry for Critical Care Transport or agreement to obtain within 18 months, required.
  • NC state approved restrictive-interventions curricula within 3 months of hire, required.
  • Current driver's license in appropriate state.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency medical calls, assess and treat patients at scene and during transport.
  • Provide advanced emergency care, including administering medications, starting IVs, monitoring vital signs, and life-saving interventions.
  • Safely transport patients to appropriate facilities while documenting patient condition.
  • Communicate patient information and treatment with ED staff and other healthcare professionals.

The Paramedic serves as a member of the healthcare team by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with other team members to provide care that promotes optimal health. The paramedic utilizes best scientific evidence, protocols, and compassion to assist the care of the patient during their health journey. The Paramedic accepts accountability for provision of care, as part of the RN and physician led team, in accordance with the current policies, protocols and procedures.

What You'll Do
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency medical calls, assessing and treating patients at the scene and during transport.
  • Provide advanced emergency care, including administering medications, starting IVs, monitoring vital signs, and performing life‑saving interventions.
  • Safely transport patients to appropriate medical facilities while continuously monitoring and documenting their condition.
  • Communicate patient information and treatment provided to emergency department staff and other healthcare professionals.
What We're Looking For
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Experience:
    • 2 years required for ED and CCT, required.
    • 3 years required for Event Medicine, required.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Paramedic Certification or Degree, required.
    • National Registry for Critical Care Transport or an educational agreement to obtain National Registry within 18 months of hire, required.
    • NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments, required.
    • Current driver's license in appropriate state for Critical Care Transport Departments, required.
  • Additional Skills (required): Must have ability to assess and/or interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age, as well as health and developmental needs. Ability to successfully complete generic and department‑specific skills validation and competency testing. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written documentation. Excellent customer service skills. Possesses the ability to prioritize job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels. Administer and evaluate medication therapies, performs patient transfers and transport patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments. Ability to lift and carry various equipment including portable cardiac monitors, etc. Ability to provide routine care such as start IV's, perform dressing changes, etc. to patients in a timely manner. Ability to perform in critical situations, including administering CPR.
