Job summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach Paralegal Studies in the Business and Legal Studies Department across campus locations. The position is part-time and paid at $640 per credit hour, scheduled term-by-term (fall, spring, or summer), with duties including instruction coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom activities.

The role requires JD and teaching experience in higher education or equivalent field

Qualifications

  • JD required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience in higher education, or one (1) year of teaching experience and three (3) years of employment in the field.
  • Knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies to facilitate student-centered learning; experience interacting successfully with an expanding student population.
  • Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new content.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so that others understand.
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach classes using various instructional delivery methods.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver instruction in Paralegal Studies.
  • Compile, administer, evaluate, and grade students’ class work, laboratory work, assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently, and keep students informed of progress through timely grading.
  • Develop curricula and instructional materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Maintain office hours for academic advice, assist in recruitment and retention, and help students with course-related problems outside of class.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with FERPA regulations.
  • Attend all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings called by the President, Dean, or Department Chair.
  • Stay current in the field by reading literature, networking with colleagues, and attending professional conferences.
  • Participate in departmental and college committees; provide outreach service to the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Head or Dean.
