Job summary

UWM is seeking a Paralegal to support the Legal and Compliance team. The role is 100% onsite in our Pontiac office, assisting attorneys with litigation, document drafting, and regulatory compliance.

You will handle subpoenas, discovery requests, and maintain confidential company records, while collaborating across teams to mitigate risk. Strong research and drafting skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or Paralegal certificate and experience in a legal support environment.
• Experience performing legal research and comprehension of state statutes and civil code procedures.
• Litigation and subpoena processes experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist Senior Paralegal and in-house attorneys with employment litigation matters; draft and issue litigation hold notices; communicate with insurers and external counsel as needed.
• Draft, proofread, and review land record documents, including Assignments of Mortgages, Releases/Reconveyances, and Subordination Agreements.
• Produce records timely to non-party subpoena and discovery requests daily; coordinate witness depositions; act as custodian of records for the company.
• Serve as recipient for service of process; review, track and elevate legal matters as needed.
• Track and process legal invoices utilizing Airtable software.
• Review a variety of other legal documents including residential purchase agreements, leasehold agreements, trust agreements, and other real estate and title documents.
• Review civil case documents including partition actions, quiet title actions, bankruptcy filings, foreclosure cases; track communications with servicers and counsel to resolve matters.
• Research, analyze, and summarize statutory law, investor guidelines, state regulatory requirements, and judicial decisions.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies; perform quarterly material reviews and audits.
• Assist with mortgage licensing research and annual registrations and reports.
• Assist with Legal and Compliance trainings and presentations.
• Other duties as assigned.
