The OAG, Maryland Department of Health (MDH), is seeking dedicated, detail-oriented candidates for the position of Paralegal II. The MDH’s mission is to promote and improve the health and safety of all Marylanders through disease prevention, access to care, quality management, and community engagement. The MDH is a large, dynamic agency with a $21 billion budget in fiscal year 2026 and over 10,000 employees located at headquarters in Baltimore and throughout the State’s 24 local health departments. The OAG MDH team is comprised of 46 Assistant Attorneys General, including the Principal Counsel, and seven support professionals.
This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, multi-faceted, and collegial legal environment while serving the public through the important work of the OAG and MDH. The Paralegal will directly support seven Assistant Attorneys General with an emphasis on all aspects of litigation support for the Medicaid team.
Key responsibilities are:
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary performing legal research or preparing legal documents on behalf of an attorney.
Notes: 1. Thirty credit hours or a certificate in paralegal studies from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.
2. Thirty credit hours from an accredited law school may be substituted for the required experience.
3. Additional years of experience as stated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in paralegal specialist classifications or paralegal specialist specialty codes in the legal and kindred field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
