National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) seeks a Paralegal I to support intake, research, and documentation for immigrant rights cases in Chicago. The school-based help desk paralegal will collaborate with senior attorneys and project managers to provide immigration resources to community members at local high schools.
Position requires a bachelor’s degree, Spanish fluency, strong writing and organizational skills, and proficiency with Microsoft 365 and case management systems.
The mission of NIJC is to ensure human rights protections and access to justice for immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. NIJC provides direct legal services to and advocates for these populations through advocacy, impact litigation and strategic communications. NIJC leverages assistance from more than 2,500 pro bono attorneys throughout the country to provide legal services to more than 10,000 immigrants annually.
NIJC Paralegals provide general support through intake, research, case review, documentation preparation and other related tasks to assist general operations and the work of staff and pro bono attorneys. The school-based help desk paralegal will coordinate with senior attorneys and project managers to provide immigration resources for community members centered around local public high schools. While this position is posted as a Paralegal I position, appropriate level determination for more advanced paralegal applicants will be considered commensurate to their experience.
