Responsibilities

  • Conducting legal research, analysis, and interpretation involving all areas of the law with an emphasis on real property, collections, and litigation assistance.
  • Drafting legal documents, pleadings, correspondence, and contracts.
  • Assisting attorneys in preparation for hearings, trials, and administrative proceedings.
  • Organizing case files and maintaining accurate legal records.
  • Coordinating and communicating effectively with staff, attorneys, public officials, and the general public.

About the Role:

The Paralegal performs a variety of responsible paralegal work in support of the City Attorney's Office. Key duties include:

  • Conducting legal research, analysis, and interpretation involving all areas of the law with an emphasis on real property, collections, and litigation assistance.
  • Drafting legal documents, pleadings, correspondence, and contracts.
  • Assisting attorneys in preparation for hearings, trials, and administrative proceedings.
  • Organizing case files and maintaining accurate legal records.
  • Coordinating and communicating effectively with staff, attorneys, public officials, and the general public.

This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

What You Bring:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Paralegal Program with 1-3 years of experience in a Law Office
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Criminal Justice, Political Science, English, or Paralegal Studies) with six months of experience in a Law Office
  • North Carolina Paralegal Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Criminal Justice, Political Science, English or Paralegal Studies)
  • Experience working for the government.
  • Experience utilizing legal case management systems
  • Experience researching the Administrative Office of the Courts database
  • Experience with Guilford County Clerk of Superior Court's Office and Register of Deeds Office
  • Experience performing title searches in Guilford County
  • Notary Public in good standing
