Job summary

Kahana & Feld LLP is seeking a Paralegal with 5+ years of experience, preferably in California personal injury or construction defect matters. The role involves working with attorneys across a range of litigation tasks, including eDiscovery, document drafting, and trial preparation.

This is an in-office position with a hybrid option after 90 days, offering a competitive hourly rate and emphasis on accuracy and organization.

Responsibilities

  • Draft discovery, pleadings, and status reports
  • Organize case-related meetings and prepare for hearings
  • Attend client meetings, conference calls, and court hearings as needed
  • Bill for all work and meet annual billable hours requirements
  • Liaise with court staff and outside vendors as needed

Description

The Paralegal will be responsible for working with attorneys and other departments and/or staff as assigned to provide support through all aspects of litigation in a variety of practice areas.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of an attorney, coordinate, organize, prepare, and interpret complex legal documents.
  • Coordinate with attorneys and paralegal Is to direct workflow on various cases.
  • Review, and maintain documents and case files; compile documents for filing with courts and relevant agencies.
  • Conduct electronic document reviews, coordinate productions of documents with attorneys, conduct searches of production databases for relevant documents, and conduct other related eDiscovery tasks.
  • Assist with drafting discovery, pleadings, and status reports.
  • Organize and conduct case-related team meetings as needed.
  • Review and draft summaries of discovery responses, document productions, and relevant records.
  • Assist with preparation and review of materials for court hearings and depositions.
  • Attend client meetings, conference calls, and other case related meetings with attorneys.
  • Conduct legal research and document review; perform factual research in internal and external databases and libraries.
  • Review and process vendor invoices for accuracy.
  • Coordinate and prepare for trials; attend trials if necessary and provide support to attorneys at court and agency hearings.
  • Accurately document and bill for all billable work and tasks according to billing procedures; meet annual billable hours requirement.
  • Communicate and interact with filing clerks, court room assistants and calendar clerks.
  • Liaise with outside vendors such as court reporters, experts, mediators, etc.
Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience preferred, working as a paralegal, preferably with a focus on personal injury or construction defect cases in the State of California.
  • Experience preparing for and assisting with trials.
  • Familiarity with online databases and resources.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with professionalism in client and colleague interactions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and file management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of third-party e-fling providers, including but not limited to One Legal, First Legal, Odyssey File & Serve, and Green Filing, a plus.
  • Knowledge of PACER and the federal Judiciary’s Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system, a plus.

Salary Description

$40.00 - $50.00 per hour

Physical Requirements

Primarily sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Work can be performed with or without accommodations.
