Job summary

Amentum, United States, is seeking a Paralegal/Legal Assistant I who works under close supervision with required assistance readily available. You will perform tasks such as researching facts, filing NDAs and warrants, reviewing documents, and compiling subpoena packets to support case work.

Required qualifications include a paralegal certificate or year of ABA-law school study, plus at least one year of litigation paralegal experience.

Qualifications

  • Must obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization.
  • Paralegal certificate, or ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study; substitution allowed.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience; trial experience helpful.
  • Basic knowledge of legal research tools (LEXIS/Westlaw) and standard legal citation.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Paralegal/Legal Assistant I works under close supervision with required assistance readily available. Persons in this position typically perform the following:

  • Consult prescribed sources of information for facts relating to matters of interest to the program;
  • File a variety of documents including nondisclosure orders; search warrants with sealing orders; and 6e notices, amendments, and compliance to the courthouse for grand jury read‑ins;
  • Review documents to extract selected data and information relating to specific items;
  • Compile subpoena packets;
  • Review and summarize information in prescribed format on case precedent and decisions;
  • Docket calendar deadlines, status conferences, and arraignments for assigned AUSA’s;
  • Search and extract legal references in libraries and computer‑data banks;
  • Attend hearings or court appearances to become informed on administrative and/or court procedures and the status of cases, and where necessary, assist in the presentation of charts and other visual information.
Qualifications
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Requires paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA‑accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study. One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate.
  • Additionally, at least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required; trial experience very helpful
  • Automated litigation support experience valued. Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research.
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands‑on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Role also requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.

Employees will earn H&W dollars per eligible hour (including vacation and holiday up to 40 hours/week). H&W monies are used to offset the employer’s cost of benefits the employee elects into and/or utilizes. Any remaining health and welfare monies after all applicable deductions would be cashed out to the employee on a 1 pay period lag.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits

This is an hourly, overtime‑eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
