Job summary

Burnham Law, a Colorado- and Arizona‑based firm, seeks a detail‑oriented paralegal to join our team in Arizona. You will organize cases, draft pleadings, assist with hearings, and communicate with clients alongside attorneys on diverse matters.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of paralegal experience in family or criminal law, strong writing and research skills, and familiarity with Filevine or Google Calendar.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Paralegal Certificate.
  • 2+ years of paralegal experience in domestic relations (family law) and/or criminal law preferred.
  • Experience with case management software (e.g., Filevine, Google Calendaring).
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong client communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel), Adobe, and Mac products.
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, disclosures, discovery requests, and correspondence.
  • Assist attorneys with case management, calendaring, deadlines, and trial preparation.
  • Maintain and organize electronic case files and documents within the firm's case management systems.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, providing updates and gathering information as needed.
  • Conduct legal research using platforms such as Westlaw.
  • Assist with preparing exhibits, binders, witness lists, and trial notebooks.
  • Manage discovery processes, including organizing, reviewing, and summarizing documents.
  • Coordinate court filing, e-filing, and service processes.
  • Support attorneys during hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials.
  • Collaborate with legal assistants and other administrative staff to ensure cases are moving forward efficiently.

What You'll Do

As a Paralegal, you will play a critical role in organizing cases, preparing legal documents, supporting your team in hearings and trial preparation, and communicating with clients. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, highly organized, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced legal environment.

This position may be performed remotely (within the state of Arizona), in a hybrid arrangement, or on-site, depending on the needs of the firm, clients, and assigned cases. The role offers flexibility; however, during the first 90 days of employment, the Attorney is expected to be in the office as much as possible for onboarding, training, and integration with the team. The typical workday is Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM.
