Job summary

Kahana & Feld LLP is seeking a paralegal to coordinate complex legal documents under attorney supervision. You will work with attorneys and other paralegals to manage workflow on cases and prepare filings with courts and agencies.

Responsibilities include eDiscovery tasks, drafting discovery and pleadings, organizing case files, and assisting with hearings and depositions. Strong CA-focused experience and trial prep are preferred.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years paralegal experience preferred, CA focus.
  • Experience with trials is a plus.
  • Familiarity with online databases and resources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accurate document preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Direct workflow on cases by coordinating with attorneys and paralegals.
  • Review and maintain documents and case files; prepare filings with courts and agencies.
  • Conduct electronic document reviews and coordinate productions with attorneys.
  • Assist with drafting discovery, pleadings, and status reports.
  • Organize case-related team meetings and attend client meetings with attorneys.
  • Review discovery responses, document productions, and relevant records.
  • Assist with preparation of materials for hearings and depositions.
  • Conduct legal research and factual research in databases and libraries.
  • Review and process vendor invoices for accuracy.
  • Coordinate and prepare for trials; assist at court and agency hearings.
  • Document and bill for all billable work and meet annual hours requirement.
  • Communicate with filing clerks, court room assistants and calendar clerks.
  • Liaise with outside vendors (court reporters, experts, mediators).

Job description

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of an attorney, coordinate, organize, prepare, and interpret complex legal documents.
  • Coordinate with attorneys and paralegal Is to direct workflow on various cases.
  • Review, and maintain documents and case files; compile documents for filing with courts and relevant agencies.
  • Conduct electronic document reviews, coordinate productions of documents with attorneys, conduct searches of production databases for relevant documents, and conduct other related eDiscovery tasks.
  • Assist with drafting discovery, pleadings, and status reports.
  • Organize and conduct case-related team meetings as needed.
  • Review and draft summaries of discovery responses, document productions, and relevant records.
  • Assist with preparation and review of materials for court hearings and depositions.
  • Attend client meetings, conference calls, and other case related meetings with attorneys.
  • Conduct legal research and document review; perform factual research in internal and external databases and libraries.
  • Review and process vendor invoices for accuracy.
  • Coordinate and prepare for trials; attend trials if necessary and provide support to attorneys at court and agency hearings.
  • Accurately document and bill for all billable work and tasks according to billing procedures; meet annual billable hours requirement.
  • Communicate and interact with filing clerks, court room assistants and calendar clerks.
  • Liaise with outside vendors such as court reporters, experts, mediators, etc.
Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of experience preferred, working as a paralegal, preferably with a focus on personal injury or construction defect cases in the State of California.
  • Experience preparing for and assisting with trials.
  • Familiarity with online databases and resources.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with professionalism in client and colleague interactions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and file management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of third-party e-fling providers, including but not limited to One Legal, First Legal, Odyssey File & Serve, and Green Filing, a plus.
  • Knowledge of PACER and the federal Judiciary’s Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system, a plus.

In-Office. Hybrid after 90-days of employment

Work Schedule

8:30-5:30pm Monday-Friday. Occasional weekends and holidays.

Salary Description

$35.00 - $50.00 per hour

Physical Requirements

Primarily sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Work can be performed with or without accommodations.
