Job summary

CGS seeks a Paralegal to provide legal and administrative support to government attorneys and staff in a dynamic federal environment. You will conduct legal research, manage case files, prepare legal documents, and assist with litigation and investigations in support of government needs.

The ideal candidate has experience in federal or military settings, proficiency with LexisNexis and Microsoft Office, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies or similar field required.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate highly desired.
  • At least three years of paralegal experience.
  • Federal government or military legal-office experience preferred.
  • Administrative law experience highly desired.
  • Proficiency with LexisNexis and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must become a Virginia Notary Public within 90 days of start.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain/maintain a Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal and administrative support to government attorneys and staff.
  • Conduct legal research and manage case files.
  • Prepare legal documents, memoranda, and summaries.
  • Assist with litigation, investigations, and administrative hearings.
  • Develop tracking systems and maintain records and databases.
  • Coordinate responses to FOIA and Privacy Act requests.
  • Serve as initial contact for clients and visitors; perform notary services.
  • Support law library organization and legal publications.

CGS seeks a Paralegal to provide legal and administrative support to government attorneys and legal staff. The Paralegal will conduct legal research, manage case files, prepare legal documents, and assist with litigation, investigations, and administrative hearings. The ideal candidate will have experience in federal or military legal environments, proficiency with LexisNexis and Microsoft Office, and the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

  • Conduct comprehensive legal research involving federal and state statutes, regulations, directives, and judicial decisions
  • Use government-provided legal research databases, including LexisNexis, PACER, and state judiciary resources
  • Analyze and summarize case law, research findings, medical records, and factual records
  • Assist attorneys in developing legal opinions, memoranda, and case strategies
  • Investigate facts and gather evidence for legal cases, JAGMAN administrative or criminal investigations, and civilian personnel matters
  • Case and File Management
  • Create, organize, and maintain physical and electronic records for cases, investigations, and other legal matters
  • Track deadlines, statutes of limitations, discovery dates, report dates, filing requirements, and suspense dates
  • Notify government attorneys of pending or upcoming actions
  • Develop and maintain tracking systems and databases for evidence, documents, investigations, administrative law matters, and training records
  • Document Drafting and Preparation
  • Prepare legal and administrative documents for attorney review and approval, including:
  • Legal memoranda and advisory opinions
  • Reports of investigation
  • Summary transcripts
  • Pleadings and motions
  • Discovery requests and responses
  • Correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, and government agencies
  • Responses to FOIA and Privacy Act requests
  • Weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports
  • Litigation and Administrative Hearing Support
  • Assist attorneys with preparation for trials and administrative hearings
  • Organize and maintain exhibits, trial notebooks, hearing notebooks, and witness files
  • Review and summarize transcripts, witness testimony, discovery materials, and other evidence
  • Identify and highlight key information relevant to litigation or administrative proceedings
  • Administrative and Program Support
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for clients and visitors
  • Provide knowledgeable assistance and route inquiries to appropriate legal personnel
  • Perform notary services
  • Assist with organization and management of the legal office’s law library and legal publications
  • Draft routine correspondence
