Job summary

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree, 2+ years paralegal experience, and a Certified Paralegal or Certified Legal Professional credential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 2+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience in a law firm or in‑house.
  • Certified Paralegal Certificate or Certified Legal Professional.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to proofread material for grammatical or spelling errors.
  • Sound business judgment and flexible to prioritize time‑sensitive matters.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of the Spanish and/or French Language (business proficiency).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing PowerPoint presentations and other materials, including decks, guides, tracking charts, checklists, and reports.
  • Assist under supervision with investigatory needs, including factual analyses, intake, and summaries.
  • Draft legal documents.
  • Manage documents and electronic files, and respond to litigation discovery requests.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Provide support for independent contractor processes and stakeholder engagement.
  • Interview clients.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

About the role

Covenant House New York's Legal Department is seeking a Paralegal to assist the Legal Affairs team with administrative tasks and certain tasks related to investigations, policies, and presentations.

What you'll do
  • Support League policy management, including drafting, distribution, and compliance.
  • Assist with preparing PowerPoint presentations and other materials, including decks, guides, tracking charts, checklists, and reports.
  • Assist (under supervision of CHNY attorneys) with investigatory needs, including factual analyses, informational intake, and summaries.
  • Draft legal documents.
  • Manage documents and electronic files, and the process for responding to litigation discovery requests.
  • Conduct legal research
  • Provide support for independent contractor processes, including working on templatesand interfacing with internal stakeholders on departmental needs and engagement requests.
  • Interview clients
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2+ years at a law firm or in‑house as a paralegal or legal assistant
  • Certified Paralegal Certificate or Certified Legal Professional
  • Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated individual with outstanding organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to proofread material for grammatical or spelling errors
  • Sound business judgment, and flexibility/adaptability to prioritize, organize, manage, and complete time‑sensitive matters without sacrificing accuracy
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast‑paced, team environment
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

The pay range for this role is:

56,650 - 56,650 USD per year (41st ST - SHELTER)
