Job summary

Sylvania is hiring paraeducators for special education programs. You will assist in instruction, support students with disabilities, and help manage behavior in classroom and resource settings.

Responsibilities include monitoring progress, maintaining records, and collaborating with staff. Requires relevant certifications and the ability to work with students in various settings. Start date and location are in Minnesota.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with certification due within 30 days.
• 60 semester credits/90 quarter credits or associate degree or ParaPro exam documentation.
• Good communication, interpersonal and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and handle toileting and self-care tasks.

Paraeducator Special Education

2 Positions available.

Duties

• Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center base settings. Job duties may include:
• Managing behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom)
• Monitoring and recording student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.)
• Managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
• Completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution or have passed the ParaEducator exam or ParaPro exam. Documentation will be required.
• Good communications, interpersonal and record‑keeping skills.
• Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
• Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
• Ability to supervise students, take direction and maintain regular attendance, including completing an assigned day.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform position responsibilities, including toileting, feeding and self‑care procedures, implementing behavioral management program, maintaining student data and working with students who may display aggressive or inappropriate behavior.
• Must be physically working in the building.

Rate of Pay

• $20.85/hour to $25.50/hour DOQ with K‑12 experience
• $22.00/hour to $26.65/hour with AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience*
• $22.85/hour to $27.50/hour with BA degree from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience

Special Ed Paras serving Center based students and classrooms 50 percent or more of their time shall receive an additional $0.50 per hour.

Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program shall receive an additional $1.00 per hour. Special Ed Paras at River Trail Learning Center shall receive an additional $1.50 per hour.
