Job summary

Harford County Public Schools is seeking a Paraeducator for the Judy Center at Joppatowne Elementary School to support instructional programs, assist with student needs, and collaborate with the Service Coordination team.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and may require additional credentials or coursework. Training in restraint techniques and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds are expected, with experience serving students with disabilities preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, and associate of arts degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or 48 college credits with grade "C" or higher; or A passing score on a paraprofessional exam which include: ParaPro score of 455 or higher taken on or before August 31, 2026; ParaPathways (5757): Reading and Writing with a score of 332 or higher AND ParaPathways: Mathematics with a score of 334 or higher
  • Foundations of Classroom Support (517) with a score of 220 or higher
  • Foundations of Classroom Support and Instruction (519) with a score of 220 or higher
  • Possess strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to be trained in and perform proper restraint techniques.
  • Able to lift and transfer students weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supported instruction to families and children in learning/playgroup classrooms based on the MMSR seven domains.
  • Works as a member of a team, including the Service Coordination team to integrate all twelve components of a Judy Center.
  • Provides assistance to students to complete special assignments; follows-up and reinforces activities.
  • Assists with unique, special needs of students.
  • Assists with data collection and student assessment.
  • Prepares instructional materials for students as needed.
  • Participates in professional development programs as assigned.
  • Provides referral assistance or support services for families as needed.
  • Works with students via digital platform(s) to provide support during instruction, assist with data collection, testing, and student assessment.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned, which is inclusive of in-person duties and virtual duties as applicable.

PARAEDUCATOR – JUDY CENTER

Lateral transfers of instructional personnel are not considered after August 1st.

SALARY
  • This is a full-time ten-month position. Salary range based on the FY 2026-2027 HCEA-ESP Salary Schedule for Paraeducator Personnel. Starting Salary: $28,482– Maximum Earnings Potential $47,769.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
