Job Description
DESCRIPTION:The special education paraeducator, under direct supervision of the teacher, building principal and director of special education, will assist the teacher in the instructional portion of the school curriculum, help transition the student to and from classes, as well as attend to both positive and negative behavior. The one-to-one paraeducator will assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP), including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs.
Instructional methods and materials will be assigned to the paraeducator by the teacher to use with the student. Safety Care training will be provided as needed. This position is dependent on the enrolled student’s needs. Those needs may include moving from grade to grade with the student and to different buildings within the campus. This position is dependent on student enrollment.
QUALIFICATIONS:??The special education paraeducator is required to have the equivalent of two years of college or be willing to take and pass a competency test.? The assistant will be proficient or willing to be trained in safety care if not currently trained.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working area will be in multiple locations depending on the need of the student. Provide assistance in the educational, as well as social-emotional needs of students. Provide assistance in the preparation and maintenance of educational materials. Provide assistance in the supervision of student including escorting students to and from classes. Provide assistance in the reinforcement of the teacher’s directions, activities or skills to be practiced. Provide disciplinary support. Assignment will be based upon the needs of the student and is subject to change if the needs of the student changes or the student leaves. The changes may include a release from employment or a change in placement within the district. The Paraeducator will be given two weeks notice of any change in employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.
The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
