Job summary

The Illinois Association of School Administrators is seeking a paraprofessional to support teachers in instruction and student care across grades preschool through 8. You will reinforce learning, assist with individualized strategies, and help maintain a safe, organized classroom environment.

Reporting to the principal and certified staff, you will work with students with special needs, assist with non-instructional supervision, and participate in professional development to stay current with

Qualifications

  • Paraprofessional Approval by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses knowledge of District policies and regulations relating to areas of responsibilities.
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in District provided in-service activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community.
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.
  • Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on the understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Assists as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the grade level team.
  • Assists teachers in instructional activities that allow for differentiated learning opportunities.
  • Advises the certified staff and/or administrator to any problem or special information about a student.
  • Develops positive working relationships with school personnel and parents.
  • Is capable of physically assisting students with special needs, including students using wheelchairs, of any grade level (Preschool - 8th grade) with personal needs and care including eating, dressing, positioning, bathing/cleansing, grooming, toileting, standing, bus loading, and lifting/carrying or supporting students who may weigh 60 or more pounds.
  • Assists with the monitoring and supervising of students during non-instructional times/areas such as: classroom, hall, lunch, recess, bus, or as otherwise requested.
  • Promotes and models school behavior management programs.
  • Assists and carries out other duties assigned by supervising teacher and/or by building administrator(s)
