Job summary

Weber Specialties Company is seeking a Panel Bender Operator in Michigan. The role involves setting up and operating panel bending machines to shape and form sheet metal according to specifications. You will read job specs, prints, and operator instructions while monitoring SPC control charts to ensure quality.

You will also perform basic machine maintenance, ensure safety, complete shop floor paperwork, and collaborate with team members to meet production goals in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • One year of panel bender or comparable machinery experience.
  • Ability to read job specifications, part prints, operator instructions.
  • Ability to read SPC control charts and apply acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to measure with micrometers, calipers and tape measures.
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to procedures.

Job description

  • Performs set up and operation of panel bending machine(s) to bend, shape, and form sheet metal components according to specifications.
  • Reads job specifications, part prints, operator instructions and SPC control charts provided in the production kit to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Positions workpiece against stops or aligns layout marks with guide.
  • Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machine.
  • Observes machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Completes statistical process control (SPC) charts in accordance with in-process inspection instructions using instruments such as micrometers, calipers and tape measures to check parts.
  • Shuts down operation if process varies outside of SPC control limits and notifies team leader and/or quality assurance personnel.
  • Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpiece.
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces.
  • Complies with all safety procedures per Company Safety Manual and utilizes machine safety devices. Shuts down machinery and does not operate if job is unsafe.
  • Accurately completes all shop floor paperwork including production release, routing sheets, container identification labels and time sheets.
  • Communicates with material handler, set-up personnel and Team Leader as necessary to insure availability of proper tools and materials to complete job.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities, and also able to work in a team environment.
  • May work in other areas of either plant based on production requirements.
  • May be required to work off shifts as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. One year of panel bender or comparable machinery experience.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
