Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Registered Nurse for ED PRN rotation (7a-7p / 7p-7a). Under limited supervision, you will assess patients, develop and modify care plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes.

Required: Maryland RN license, Associate's degree, 1 year ED experience, BLS, PALS/ACLS/NRP as applicable, and proficiency with electronic health records. Compensation includes $50.00 per hour plus shift differential and benefits.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provides unit-specific and/or hospital-based patient care; demonstrates solid knowledge and clinical skills, and advances own practice.
  • Accountable to patients and families for care processes and outcomes during an episode; accountable to peers for team practice.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs; serves as clinical resource as needed.
  • Participates in efforts addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
  • Complies with standards and supports activities for regulatory compliance.
  • Supports leader and charge nurse decisions; serves as an effective primary coordinating nurse as required.
  • Models practice consistent with unit operations to ensure safe, timely, effective, efficient, patient-centered care.
  • Follows AACN Healthy Work Environment guidelines; participates as part of the team focusing on communication, collaboration, decision making, recognition, leadership, staffing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Principal Responsibilities And Tasks
  • Provides care of unit-specific and/or hospital-based patient population; independently practices with solid knowledge and clinical skills; engaged in advancing own practice. Utilizes and integrates evidence into practice.
  • Accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care. Accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs. Serves as clinical resource as needed.
  • Participates in implementation efforts addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
  • Complies with standards and supports activities for regulatory compliance.
  • Supports leader and charge nurse decisions. Serves as an effective primary coordinating nurse as required.
  • Models practice consistent with unit operations to ensure safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient-centered care.
  • Follows and supports the AACN guidelines for Healthy Work Environment (communication, collaboration, effective decision making, recognition, leadership, staffing); participates as team member focusing on elements within the Healthy Work Environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.
  • Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  • Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
  • Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.

  • Ability to demonstrate versatility and willingness to work within the PRN RN Standardized Program as outlined in assigned Unit-Based or Hospital-Based commitment levels.
Minimum Education, Experience, And License/Certification Required
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing required.
  • Associate's degree required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • One (1) year of previous RN experience required.
  • Previous Emergency Nursing experience preferred
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required upon hire.
  • Must meet all unit-specific certification requirements (PALS, ACLS, NRP).
