Job summary

The Alaska Court System is seeking dependable bailiffs to escort jurors in and out of the courtroom, help ensure the integrity of deliberations, and support jurors with meals, lodging, and transportation when needed.

These on-call, temporary positions may involve short or long shifts, with occasional gaps between assignments. A background check will be conducted prior to an offer.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school graduation or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND six months of responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to deal tactfully with the public.

Job Description

The Alaska Court System is seeking dependable and organized individuals to serve as bailiffs—an important role that supports the court’s mission of delivering fair and efficient justice.

As a bailiff, you will be responsible for escorting jurors in and out of the courtroom before, during, and after trials. You’ll help maintain the integrity of the deliberation process by ensuring that jurors are not contacted or influenced by outside parties. In addition, you will assist with coordinating meals, lodging, and transportation for jurors when necessary, and you’ll accompany them to meals and provide support for basic, personal errands as needed.

This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of the judicial process in a respectful, structured environment. It’s a great fit for individuals who are calm under pressure, attentive to detail, and enjoy helping others navigate an important civic responsibility.

The Schedule

These positions are on-call and temporary, and may work multiple days in a row.

The applicant may be called in for as little as two hours or up to eight hours a day.

There may be gaps of a week or two without a shift.

Alternatively, you may be called back for consecutive-day coverage.

Minimum Qualifications

If you believe your application was improperly disqualified, you may appeal this decision to the Human Resources Director at 820 West 4th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501-2005 within five workdays from the date the notice is mailed to you. Qualified applications will be forwarded to the hiring supervisor.
