Job summary

Oshkosh Corporation's Kewaunee fabrication facility seeks a skilled painter to apply coatings and ensure surface preparation quality in a safety-focused environment. You will work the 3rd Shift: Sun–Thu, 11:00 PM–7:00 AM, with a paid lunch and a strong benefits package after 30 days. Starting pay is $26.75/hr plus a $1.00/hr shift premium for 2nd/3rd shifts.

Qualifications

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to read and write.
  • Must pass a physical exam required for respirator use.
  • Must be able to enter confined spaces as required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, apply, and verify customer coating and surface preparation requirements.
  • Ensure substrates are clean and free of contaminants.
  • Mix and apply coatings according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Avoid defects such as runs, sags, thin spots; ensure proper dry/cure times.
  • Adjust paint parameters based on humidity/temperature.
  • Repair coating defects to a high finish.
  • Maintain coating thickness with gauges.
  • Perform cleaning and preventive maintenance on painting equipment.

What You Can Expect

Competitive Pay (Based on Experience)

  • Starting rate: $26.75 per hour
  • Shift premium: $1.00 per hour for 2nd and 3rd shifts
  • Wage increases every 6 months until top pay, then annually

Shift Options

3rd Shift: Sunday - Thursday, 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM All shifts include a paid lunch.

Essential Functions
  • Proficiently prepare, apply, and verify customer coating and surface preparation requirements
  • Ensure substrates are clean and free of contaminants like dirt or oil
  • Mix and apply coatings according to manufacturer specifications
  • Avoid defects such as runs, sags, thin spots, and ensure proper dry/cure times
  • Adjust paint and process parameters based on humidity, temperature, or anomalies
  • Repair or blend coating defects to a high standard of finish
  • Ensure uniform coating thickness using wet mil or dry film gauges
  • Perform daily and weekly cleaning and preventive maintenance on painting/mixing equipment
  • Maintain effectiveness and code compliance of grounding and air filtration systems

  • Complete all required paperwork, including labor reporting and quality documentation
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
  • Perform self-inspections and other quality control tasks at the workstation
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment
  • Assist in the training and development of personnel
  • Perform work at lower classification levels when assigned
  • Carry out other duties as directed by supervision
Required Qualifications
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to read and write
  • Able to work independently with moderate supervision
  • Must pass a physical exam required for respirator use
  • Must be able to enter confined spaces as required
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting/carrying of up to 35 lbs
  • Occasional lifting (3–6 times per shift) of 65–70 lb paint pails
  • Use of lifting devices encouraged and available
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or technical school training
  • One to three years of painting experience
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
