Role Description

The Paint Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Emeryville, CA. This position is responsible for reviewing project plans and specifications, performing detailed quantity takeoffs, and preparing accurate cost estimates for painting, waterproofing, and related scopes of work. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing bid documents, attending pre-bid meetings, coordinating with project managers and field teams, and soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and vendor quotations. The Paint Estimator will develop proposals, assist with value engineering options, track bid results, and maintain estimating databases and historical cost information. Collaboration with internal stakeholders and clients to clarify project requirements, schedules, and budget expectations is an essential part of the role.

Qualifications

• Strong estimating and construction project skills, including reading blueprints, performing quantity takeoffs, and preparing detailed cost estimates.
• Knowledge of painting, coatings, waterproofing, and related construction materials, methods, and industry standards.
• Proficiency with estimating and project management software, as well as standard office tools (BuzzBid, Excel, Word, and digital plan review platforms).
• Solid analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to compare bids, evaluate alternatives, and provide cost-effective recommendations.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with project managers, field supervisors, vendors, and clients.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple bids, deadlines, and shifting priorities.
• Previous experience in painting or specialty contracting estimating is highly beneficial; field experience in construction trades is a plus.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or a degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
