Job summary

MedNOW Clinics in Colorado Springs seeks an experienced Nurse Practitioner to provide outpatient pain-management services. The role requires evaluating complex pain conditions, developing individualized treatment plans, and coordinating care with physicians and specialists.

The ideal candidate will have direct pain-management experience, current Colorado NP license, prescriptive authority, and strong skills in patient education, documentation, and multimodal pain strategies.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current national board certification relevant to NP role and population focus.
• Current, unrestricted Colorado RN license and NP credentials, or eligible to obtain.
• Colorado prescriptive authority appropriate for the position.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients with acute, chronic, and complex pain conditions.
• Obtain complete medical histories and perform physical examinations.
• Develop differential diagnoses and evidence-based treatment plans.
• Use multimodal pain-management strategies including medications, nonpharmacologic treatment, education, referrals, and care coordination.
• Prescribe and manage medications within license and clinic policies.
• Follow controlled-substance safeguards and conduct PDMP reviews and toxicology screening.
• Identify potential medication misuse or unsafe treatment situations and take action.
• Order and interpret laboratory tests and imaging; follow up appropriately.
• Coordinate care with physicians, specialists, physical therapy, behavioral health, pharmacies, and other professionals.
• Provide clear patient education on treatment expectations, risks, benefits, and follow-up.
• Complete accurate documentation, diagnoses, orders, and coding timely.
• Maintain updated medication, allergy, and problem lists.
• Review messages, refills, prior authorizations, results, and referrals.
• Participate in quality improvement and continuing professional development.

MedNOW Clinics is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to provide outpatient pain-management services at our Colorado Springs location.

This position is designed for an NP with direct pain-management experience who is comfortable evaluating complex pain conditions, developing individualized treatment plans, managing medications responsibly, and coordinating care with physicians, specialists, and clinical support teams.

Prior professional pain-management experience is required.

What You Will Do

• Evaluate patients with acute, chronic, and complex pain conditions.

• Obtain complete medical histories and perform appropriate physical examinations.

• Develop differential diagnoses and individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.

• Use multimodal pain-management strategies, including medication management, nonpharmacologic treatment, patient education, referrals, and care coordination.

• Prescribe and manage medications within your license, prescriptive authority, approved privileges, and MedNOW Clinics policies.

• Follow applicable controlled-substance safeguards, including Prescription Drug Monitoring Program review, risk assessment, treatment agreements, toxicology screening, medication reconciliation, and appropriate follow-up.

• Recognize possible medication misuse, diversion, substance-use disorders, or unsafe treatment situations and take appropriate clinical action.

• Order, review, interpret, and follow up on laboratory testing, imaging, and other diagnostic studies.

• Coordinate care with physicians, specialists, physical therapy, behavioral health, pharmacies, and other healthcare professionals.

• Provide clear patient education regarding treatment expectations, medication safety, risks, benefits, alternatives, return precautions, and follow-up requirements.

• Perform pain-management procedures only when appropriately trained, privileged, and assigned.

• Complete accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, diagnoses, orders, and coding.

• Maintain current medication, allergy, and problem lists.

• Review assigned messages, refill requests, prior authorizations, results, referrals, and clinical work queues.

• Recognize conditions requiring consultation, emergency evaluation, or a higher level of care.

• Participate in quality improvement, peer review, team meetings, training, and continuing professional development.

• Maintain all required licenses, certifications, credentialing, payer enrollment, and professional records.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

• Current national board certification appropriate to the applicant’s professional role and population focus.

• Current, unrestricted Colorado registered nurse license and Advanced Practice Nurse registration as a Nurse Practitioner, or documented eligibility to obtain the required credentials before starting.

• Colorado prescriptive authority appropriate for the position.

• Active DEA registration appropriate for the position’s prescribing responsibilities.

• Prior professional pain-management experience.

• Experience with controlled-substance prescribing, medication monitoring, risk assessment, Prescription Drug Monitoring Program review, and toxicology screening.

• Current NPI and ability to complete MedNOW Clinics and payer credentialing requirements.

• Current BLS/CPR certification.

• Strong assessment, diagnostic, treatment-planning, documentation, and patient follow-up skills.

• Understanding of medical necessity, coding, patient privacy, and professional standards.

• Ability to work onsite at the Colorado Springs location for the approved full-time schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing chronic and complex pain conditions in an outpatient setting.

• Experience with multimodal and non-opioid pain-management strategies.

• Experience identifying and responding to medication misuse, diversion, or substance-use concerns.

• Experience with Athenahealth or another electronic health record.

• Experience completing prior authorizations and coordinating specialty referrals.

• Experience with outpatient coding, documentation, quality measures, and clinical work queues.
