Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) offers a paid internship in the Cyber & Information Security Division, focusing on defense-related cybersecurity research and practical experience in compliance, SIEM, vulnerability management, and security audits.

Candidates should be pursuing studies in information security, computer science, or related fields, and be able to commit up to 20 hours/week during the academic year and 40 hours/week in the summer at ARL in State College, PA.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication, customer service, technical writing, and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Linux systems in a domain environment.
• Scripting (bash, Python) and basic cybersecurity concepts.

Responsibilities

• Assist Cybersecurity Assurance teams with compliance enforcement.
• Configure SIEM and perform security administration.
• Support vulnerability management and audits.
• Develop automation and process improvements.
• Contribute to compliance documentation and policy writing.
• Assist with hardware/software reviews.
• Prepare technical writing in policy, process, and procedures.
