Job summary

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Main PACU to provide post-operative care for patients recovering from complex surgeries in a Level 1 Trauma Center.

The role supports a 36-hour, full-time Day shift (three 12-hour shifts with every 3rd weekend) and offers specialty pay for experienced RN staff. You will collaborate with anesthesiologists and surgeons to ensure safe emergence from anesthesia and timely transfers.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate's degree in Nursing is required.
• Valid RN license in Connecticut.
• One year PACU experience preferred.

Position Purpose

At Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Registered Nurse (RN) in the Main PACU provides post-operative care for patients recovering from complex surgeries performed in the Main OR of a Level 1 Trauma Center.

What You Will Do

• Provide high-acuity care for patients recovering from trauma, cardiovascular, neurological, and other critical surgeries.
• Manage Phase 1 and 2 recovery, ensuring safe emergence from anesthesia, stabilization, and transfer readiness.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and care teams to deliver advanced interventions and uphold perioperative standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate's degree in Nursing is required.
• Valid RN license in Connecticut.
• The ideal candidate will have one or more years of PACU experience supporting inpatient surgical recovery.

Preferred:

• Candidates with 2 (two) or more years of ICU-level nursing experience may be considered if they demonstrate expertise in ICU-level ventilated patient care, critical drips (e.g., vasopressors, sedatives), and strong assessment skills. Note : Training is not available for candidates without this expertise
• BLS/CPR certification (AHA or ARC)
• ACLS and TNCC certification (support available post-hire)
• Proficiency in ASPAN standards and guidelines

Position Highlights and Benefits

• Full-Time - 36 hours/week - Day Shift
• Three 12-hour shifts, every 3rd weekend.
• Variable start times, starting at 5:30 am, 7:00 am, and 8:00 am
• On-call requirements is based on unit needs. On-call may be required to support off shifts, such as Nights.
• Specialty pay available for experienced nurses with one or more years of RN experience
• Hourly Staff RN position; pay range: $36.15 - $59.95/hour
