Job summary

The George Washington University Hospital is seeking a Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) / Pre‑Op Registered Nurse to deliver safe, evidence‑based care for patients undergoing surgical procedures in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities include patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, airway management, pain control, and coordination with surgical teams. Requires DC RN license, BLS/ACLS, and 1 year PACU/ICU/ED experience.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the District of Columbia (or eligible).
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA).
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in PACU, ICU, or Emergency Department.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in the PACU and Pre‑Op areas.
• Monitor vital signs, pain, and recovery status post-anesthesia.
• Prepare patients for procedures with assessment, IV initiation, and education.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and care teams.
• Document care accurately in the EMR and coordinate the patient journey.
• Support patients and families with education and reassurance throughout the surgical process.
