Job summary

Corning Inc. is seeking a Packaging Lead in the Solar business in Phoenix, AZ to oversee daily packaging operations and lead a team to meet production goals with safety and quality at the forefront.

The role requires 0–2 years in packaging/manufacturing (leadership a plus) and knowledge of ERP systems, packaging machinery, and lean improvements to minimize waste and costs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; 0–2 years in packaging/manufacturing, leadership preferred.
  • Experience in solar manufacturing or similar industry is a plus.
  • Proficiency with packaging machinery and ERP/inventory tools.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily packaging operations and ensure alignment with specs, quality, and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with production, QA, and logistics for smooth workflows and shipments.
  • Train and supervise packaging staff, enforcing safety and company policies.
  • Inspect packaging materials, equipment, and finished goods for quality.
  • Monitor packaging material inventories and coordinate with procurement.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, coordinate maintenance, and keep packaging machinery in good order.
  • Improve packaging processes to boost efficiency, reduce waste, and cut costs.
  • Generate daily/weekly/monthly reports on progress and challenges.
  • Serve as contact for packaging-related issues and discrepancies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Purpose of the Position:

The Packaging Lead is responsible for overseeing the packaging operations in the plant to ensure the efficient, accurate, and timely packing of solar products. This position plays a critical role in maintaining quality standards, optimizing packaging processes, and leading a team to meet production goals while adhering to safety and environmental regulations.

Day to Day Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily packaging operations, ensuring all products are packed according to specifications, quality standards, and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with production, quality assurance, and logistics teams to ensure smooth workflow and timely shipment of products.
  • Train, supervise, and provide guidance to packaging team members, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and company policies.
  • Conduct regular inspections of packaging materials, equipment, and finished goods to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels of packaging materials and coordinate with procurement to prevent shortages or delays.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, coordinate maintenance, and ensure proper upkeep of packaging machinery.
  • Implement and optimize packaging processes to improve efficiency, minimize waste, and reduce costs.
  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports on packaging progress, productivity, and any operational challenges.
  • Act as a point of contact for resolving any packaging-related issues or discrepancies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 0-2 years of experience in packaging, manufacturing, or production, preferably in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience in solar manufacturing or a similar industry is a plus.
Required Skills
  • Strong understanding of packaging processes, equipment, and materials.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using packaging machinery and tools.
  • Knowledge of safety and quality standards in manufacturing (e.g., OSHA, ISO, or similar).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Desired Skills
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and inventory management software.
  • Understanding of solar panel manufacturing processes and terminology.
  • Knowledge of sustainable packaging practices.
Soft Skills
  • International & multi-culture communication & coordination ability Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

The range for this position is $28.00hourly rate -$30.00 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
