Job summary

  • Mathematical skills: basic arithmetic, rates, ratios and percentages.

Responsibilities

  • Pack finished product into appropriate boxes.
  • Weigh boxes on electronic scales.
  • Label boxes with product information and seal for palletization.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of dryer/packing equipment.
  • Complete paperwork and maintain records for each production run.

Location Description

Michael Foods, Inc. located in Ravenna, Nebraska is known for the special town that caters to families, giving everything they need to grow. Our location produces powdered meat and poultry for use in products such as seasonings, soups, and instant meals.

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY: The Packer position is responsible for assembling boxes, properly packaging, weighing, sealing, labeling, and stacking finished product boxes on to pallets; completing paperwork and maintaining records, and providing overall cleanliness and sanitation of dryer areas. This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate safety as a top priority; follow all safety procedures and avoid all accidents; actively determine ways to improve safety.
  • Follows all SQF principles pertinent to your position as specified by the SQF Practitioner.
  • Reports all Food Safety & Quality issues to a Supervisor, QA Manager, or at Senior Manager.
  • Assemble bundles of flat boxes; determine number of bundles to be moved based based of production
  • Label boxes with product information
  • Package finished product into appropriate boxes
  • Accurately weigh boxes on electronic scales
  • Seal and label completed boxes then stack them on to pallets, use pallet jack to transport product to powder cooler
  • Pull frequent lab samples as requested for product testing
  • Clean & sanitize dryer/packing equipment after use; perform mid shift clean ups during operation
  • Complete paperwork and maintain records; understand required documentation for the production run and verify documents with supervisor each shift
  • Minimize product loss.
  • Maintain and operate all equipment in a safe manner to avoid injury to self or others.
  • Keep work area neat, clean, and sanitary.
  • Report all work-related injuries or unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
  • Use appropriate safety equipment when required (ear plugs, rubber boots, safety glasses, face shields, aprons, bump caps, etc.) Use lockout/tagout procedures when required.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene.
  • Follow instructions from supervisor and cooperate with coworkers and other departments be willing to fill in where needed.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Assume personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, and incorporate safety & health in all jobs and tasks
  • Adhere to Quality work practices, follows GMP’s, maintains sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained. Reports to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality
  • Ensure regulatory compliance at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:Work Experience: Up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Language Skills: Ability to speak, read, and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.Computer Skills: Some computer skills with Microsoft Office and Google.Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situationswhere only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,diagram, or schedule form. Adaptable to constant changes in the workplace.Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, activelylisten, type and work on a computer all as daily tasks. Employee is frequently required to stand and use hands tofinger, handle, or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and colorvision. The employee is required to lift 10-50 lbs.Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/orhumid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places;fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environmentmay be loud and require hearing protection. Special care must be taken when working with or around microbesand chemicals. Safety material are provided, and Personal Protective Equipment should be worn where applicable(lab and production floor). Must be able to work in 80 to 100-degree temperatures.Other Skills and Abilities: Must have good people skills with an ability to listen, understand, collaborate,communicate, and assure complete information. Teamwork is essential.
