Job summary

Sun Chemical is hiring a Packer/Laborer to operate manual and highly automated production equipment under supervision. The role requires careful attention to safety, process documentation, and maintaining organized work areas.

Responsibilities include packing large bags, assisting with presses and filtration steps, taking samples, and ensuring traceability and accuracy of paperwork throughout the production cycle. A 12-hour day or night shift is available, with forklift abilities a plus.

POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

Under the direct supervision of the Production Supervisor, the Packer/Laborer is responsible for monitoring and operating manual and highly automated production equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Working safely, following all plant rules, reporting all near misses and unsafe conditions to supervisor.
• Keeping work areas clean and organized.
• Monitoring equipment condition and communicating any deficiencies to supervisor.
• Packing 25 kg (55 lbs.) bags (up to 600 in a 12-hour period)
• Packing 250-600 kg. bags (550-1320 lbs.) bags
• Assisting with ancillary processes (such as presses, bag filters, refeed, etc.)
• Cleaning out equipment during process changes and between batches as needed.
• Assisting Production Supervisor and Dry and Wet End Operators as needed.
• Taking samples of product throughout the whole process, and maintaining sample identification.
• Proper labeling of product bags to ensure product traceability throughout the process.
• Accurately filling out necessary paperwork to record process information.
• Completes any and all other duties, as required or assigned.

Physical Demands

• Frequent lifting (34-66% of the day)
• Must be able to lift up to 55lbs.
• Constant standing (66-100% of the day)
• Frequent stair climbing (3 flights, approximately 12 times per day)
• Frequent overhead reaching (34-66% of the day)
• Constant use of upper extremities, i.e. hands and arms (67-100% of the day)

Special Considerations

• Ability to safely operate forklifts.
• Ability to negotiate on grated floors up to three stories high.
• 12-hour day or night shift, ability to work a variety of shifts is a must.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or GED preferred, or pass a pre-employment screening assessment.
• Mechanical ability is helpful.
• Ability to work independently.
