Abbott in Altavista, VA is hiring a Packaging Utility Operator in the Nutrition division. The role covers filler and seamer operations, preventive maintenance, line isolation, batch release, and data analysis to support efficient production of nutrition products.

Responsibilities include ensuring proper fill weights, cleaning of equipment, GMP compliance, and collaboration with shift teams. A high school diploma and strong communication skills are required, with plant experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Excellent written/verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, analytical troubleshooting skills and the ability to multitask.
• Prior job experience within plant is preferred (24 months)
• Experience with tools and equipment related to the position is desired

Responsibilities

• Maintain product level and ensure proper operating parameters for filler, seamer and can washer; perform preventative maintenance and maintain downtime reports.
• Release commodities prior to usage; perform CIL on equipment; conduct fill weight checks and visual inspections.
• Perform preventative maintenance checks on filler valves and pistons; ensure proper cleaning methods during wash; clean filler valves, pistons, screens, bowls and related areas.
• Coordinate pre/post shift meetings; run reports and data analyses (e.g., TPR); coordinate isolation and line separation events.
• Batch setup and communication in EBR; line execution; distribute work orders; QA communications for batch release; drive continuous improvement and bottleneck mitigation.

What You’ll Work On For Filler Operation: Performs maintenance of product level. Ensures proper operating parameters for the filler, seamer and can washer. Performs preventative maintenance. Maintains the downtime report. Ensures commodities are released prior to usage. Performs CIL on equipment. Performs visual equipment inspections. Conducts fill weight checks. For Clean Up Operation: Performs preventative maintenance checks on filler valves and pistons, ensures proper cleaning methods are used during a wash job, cleans areas to include: filler valves, filler pistons, filler screens, filler bowl, seamer product filters, filler room floors and walls. Ensures proper FP tank hook-up to filling lines and product can weights are within desired range. Meets all safety and housekeeping GMP requirements. Coordinate pre and post shift meetings. Run reports and execute data analysis as needed. (ex. TPR reports on failed retort loads) Coordination of isolation and line separation events. Batch set up and communication in EBR, as well as, line execution. Work order distribution and reprints. QA communications for batch release. Driver of ideas and continuous improvement. Identify bottlenecks and provide risk mitigation solutions Liaison between operations and support groups You’ll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.
