Job summary

Abbott is a global healthcare leader with a Nutrition division located at Altavista, VA. This Packaging Utility Operator role is based in our Altavista facility, supporting line operations for filler, seamer, and can washer while maintaining quality and safety standards.

You will perform preventive maintenance, batch set-ups, data analysis, and coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient production and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

This position works out of our Altavista, VA location in the Abbott Nutrition division. What You’ll Work On
  • For Filler Operation : Performs maintenance of product level. Ensures proper operating parameters for the filler, seamer and can washer. Performs preventative maintenance. Maintains the downtime report. Ensures commodities are released prior to usage. Performs CIL on equipment. Performs visual equipment inspections. Conducts fill weight checks.
  • For Clean Up Operation : Performs preventative maintenance checks on filler valves and pistons, ensures proper cleaning methods are used during a wash job, cleans areas to include : filler valves, filler pistons, filler screens, filler bowl, seamer product filters, filler room floors and walls.
  • Ensures proper FP tank hook-up to filling lines and product can weights are within desired range.
  • Meets all safety and housekeeping GMP requirements.
  • Coordinate pre and post shift meetings.
  • Run reports and execute data analysis as needed. (ex. TPR reports on failed retort loads)
  • Coordination of isolation and line separation events.
  • Batch set up and communication in EBR, as well as, line execution.
  • Work order distribution and reprints.
  • QA communications for batch release.
  • Driver of ideas and continuous improvement.
  • Identify bottlenecks and provide risk mitigation solutions
  • Liaison between operations and support groups

You’ll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, analytical troubleshooting skills and the ability to multitask.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior job experience within plant is preferred (24 months)
  • Experience with tools and equipment related to the position is desired (hand tools, seamer, filler, sterilizer system, can washer, product filters, forklift, palletizer/depalletizer, labelers, tray wrapper and Hi-Cone, etc.)
