American Sugar Refining, Inc. is seeking a Packaging Supervisor in Chicago, IL to lead the packaging department, drive continuous improvement, and ensure GMP compliance.

The role requires directing a team, optimizing processes, and coordinating with multiple departments. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of leadership in manufacturing, with Lean Six Sigma certification preferred and experience with SAP, Kronos, and Mii.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Management, Food Science, or Organization Leadership/Management.
• Minimum 3+ years leadership experience in manufacturing or equivalent.
• Lean Six Sigma certification strongly preferred.
• Experience directing and coaching a production team and driving process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize, schedule, and delegate work to meet customer specs and quality standards.
• Recommend and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and safety.
• Train, coach and evaluate employees; address issues and resolve problems.
• Oversee and review all required paperwork, reports and documentation.
• Drive CI culture and Lean-Six Sigma principles through training and development of staff.
• Coordinate production planning with other departments for downtime and work order completion.
• Participate on cross-functional teams for ongoing method/process improvements.
• Ensure compliance with state, federal and local safety and sanitation regulations and employment issues.
• Maintain equipment and initiate repairs as needed.
• Support CAPA, SQF Preparedness, and GMP initiatives.

Overview

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Packaging Supervisor works is responsible for driving the packaging department results through effective resource management, safe operating procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), and regulatory compliance.

Detailed Roles & Responsibilities

• Prioritize, schedule, and delegate work assignments to ensure the production of products to meet customer specifications, company quality standards, and customer delivery requirements.
• Recommend and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, safety standards and quality of products.
• Train, coach and involve employees; appraise performance; offer praise and hold accountable; address complaints and resolve problems.
• Oversee and review all required paperwork, reports and documentation.
• Drive CI culture and Lean-Six Sigma principles through the continuous training and development of production staff
• Coordinate the production planning process with the other departments for downtime for PM and Work Order completion.
• Actively participate on cross-functional teams for the continuous on-going improvement of methods and processes.
• Continually review, recommend and implement programs to comply with all State, Federal and local safety and sanitation regulations and employment issues.
• Ensure proper up-keep of equipment; address and resolve problems; initiate work orders for repairs.
• Maintain a high level of completion of quality initiatives for the plant such as CAPA Completion/SQF Preparedness/HAACP Awareness/GMP’s
• Provides excellent level of customer service to both internal and external customers. Performs all other duties as assigned. Reports to work on time and works overtime as required and if required.
• Work effectively and ensure that food safety, authenticity, legality, and quality are maintained.
• Report any risks or any evidence of unsafe or out-of-specification product, equipment, packaging or raw materials, to a designated manager to enable the resolution of issues requiring immediate action.

Work Experiences

• 3+ years leadership experience, preferably in food manufacturing
• Demonstrated ability to direct, coach, and develop a team on a daily basis.
• Leads by example to create and maintain a workplace culture that engages and motivates associates at all levels.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and develop relationships across all levels and functions of the organization to support overall business success.
• Lean Six Sigma certification strongly preferred
• Proven ability to make sound decisions regarding resource utilization and needs.
• Experience implementing Continuous Improvement tools to improve Packaging & OEE Performance preferred
• Prior knowledge of SAP, Kronos, and Mii preferred

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering, Business Management, Food Science, or Organization Leadership/Management preferred) or equivalent experience as determined by HR

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

• This position directly supervises a team of hourly associates

SALARY PAY RANGE: $55,500-$103,500 plus bonus

• The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.
• Benefits include healthcare (medical, dental, vision, prescription drugs) available the first of the month following 30 days of employment, 401(k) with match, life insurance, AD&D, short-term disability, vacation, holiday and sick time.
