RRD is seeking a skilled designer to participate in the design phase of packaging and visual communications, creating structural designs and prototypes for production across formats. The role involves collaborating with customers, sales, and project managers to ensure manufacturability and impact.

The candidate should have 3+ years of relevant experience, strong visual skills, and proficiency with AutoCAD, QuarkXPress, Freehand, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in a discipline related to the role with 3+ years of relevant work experience.
• Ability to solve complex problems by analyzing variables and applying solutions learned through experience.
• Strong communication with internal/external customers and co-workers at a moderate level of detail.
• Proficient in Windows and Mac; able to quickly learn specialized software to complete work.

Responsibilities

• Assess information from the customer, Sales Department, and Project Manager into design solutions considering visual and manufacturability.
• Obtain approval of concept by submitting ideas to team for approval and critique.
• Design and produce visual communication across formats and materials, including packaging and prototypes.
• Prepare finished digital art by color and high-resolution images and files.
• Manage information, prototypes, and files through design to production and placement.
• Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc.
• Enhance existing concepts or designs.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Participates in the design phase of a project beginning with analysis of the objectives, creative structural design and engineering of working prototypes, and on into production while meeting all manufacturing criteria and customer expectations. Provides visual solutions for packaging, advertising, and sales support needs by creating designs and copy layouts.

Responsibilities

• Obtains approval of concept by submitting ideas to team for approval and critique.
• Designs and produces visual communication in a variety of formats and materials, including structural prototypes of packaging, product mock-ups, three-dimensional drawings, photographs, illustrative renderings, technical drawings, and assembly instructions.
• Prepares finished digital art by color and digital high-resolution images and files.
• Manages and disseminates information, prototypes, and electronic files through the entire design process into production, assembly, and placement.
• Completes projects by coordinating with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc.
• Enhances existing concepts or designs.
• Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.

• Bachelor degree in discipline related to role with 3+years of relevant work experience
• Able to demonstrates ability to solve somewhat more complex problems by analyzing variables and applying appropriate solutions learned through experience and proficiency in understanding the job. Must be able to recognize anomalies and critical situations and respond appropriately.
• Must be able to communicate and interact with a variety of internal/external customers and/or co-workers at level of detail required to resolve issues of moderate complexity.
• Able to apply strong functional computer knowledge in utilizing Microsoft Windows, MAC, or other technical tools in completing assignments. May require knowledge of or ability to quickly learn specialized software to complete work assignments.
• Able to demonstrate continued expertise in the primary tools or applications used in completing daily work assignments.)Requires very good communication skills with ability to state messages in a clear manner by using language that is easy for others to understand.
• Must be able to proactively listen to others to understand issues and situations.
• Must be able to clearly articulate business needs to both internal and external customers.
• Very good knowledge of manufacturing equipment, processes, and capabilities.
• Very good knowledge of packaging software with proficiency in AutoCAD, Quark Express, Freehand, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as very good knowledge of prototyping equipment.

RRD's current salary range for this role is $68,500 to $106,900 / year. The salary range may be adjusted based on the applicable geographic location of the hired employee, and the range may change in the future.At RRD, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. Depending on the role, in addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
