Job summary

Fidelity Manufacturing is seeking a skilled Packaging Mechanic to prepare tanks and enclosures for generator assembly. You will perform mechanical and basic electrical tasks, install components, and ensure compliance with safety procedures and ISO standards.

The role requires reading blueprints, applying rigging techniques, and using hand and power tools to meet production goals. Overtime may be required in a manufacturing setting; attitude toward safety and PPE is essential.

Qualifications

  • Five years of commercial generator experience or training in electrical/mechanical field, or equivalent.
  • Willingness to overtime as required.
  • Ability to read and pre-plan jobs using schematics.
  • Knowledge of rigging techniques for generators and equipment.
  • Ability to bolt generators securely and connect fuel lines.

Position Summary

The Packaging Mechanic is responsible for preparing tanks and enclosures for generator assembly by performing mechanical and basic electrical installation tasks. This role supports production goals by assembling, mounting, rigging, piping, wiring, and installing generator system components in accordance with standardized work instructions, safety procedures, and quality requirements, while maintaining compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and ISO quality standards.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare tanks and enclosures for generator assembly.
  • Perform setup, layout, and installation tasks using proper techniques.
  • Work with black iron piping and exhaust tubing.
  • Use basic hand tools, wrenches, ratchets, screwdrivers, and power tools.
  • Demonstrate comprehension of single-phase and three-phase AC systems and basic DC control systems.
  • Apply basic electrical codes and good wiring practices.
  • Perform pipe fitting and threading.
  • Use hydraulic cutters and crimpers.
  • Solve basic mathematical equations related to measurements and fitment.
  • Interpret and fabricate from specifications, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Operate forklifts safely and effectively (as trained and authorized).
  • Perform rigging tasks for generators, breakers, and related equipment.
  • Measure, install, and secure fuel, oil, and coolant lines.
  • Install exhaust kits, vents, bulkheads, condensate drains, and natural gas piping.
  • Mount generators to fuel tanks and secure hardware properly.
  • Install annunciators, isolators, fuel filters, fuel polishers, breakers, battery kits, crankcase ventilation systems, and intake/discharge plenums.
  • Run wires in loom and cut/crimp cables.
  • Seal enclosures and tanks properly.
  • Identify fittings (JIC, Barb, NPT, Boss, etc.).
  • Complete QC paperwork and ship-loose documentation accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety standards and use of required PPE.
  • Meet assigned goals and objectives in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years commercial generator experience and/or training in an electrical/mechanical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be willing to meet overtime demands.
  • Strong understanding of setup techniques and installation processes.
  • Ability to read and pre-plan jobs using schematics.
  • Knowledge of proper rigging techniques for generators, breakers, and related equipment.
  • Ability to bolt generators down securely.
  • Ability to make push-lock hoses.
  • Ability to identify fuel in/fuel out on generators.
  • Ability to connect fuel lines and run wires in loom.
  • Strong hand and power tool techniques.
  • Ability to measure for shrouds, flanges, bolt holes, and special instructions.
  • Ability to identify and work with different fittings (JIC, Barb, NPT, Boss, etc.).
  • Ability to fill out QC paperwork and ship-loose documentation.
  • Ability to install a wide range of generator accessories and systems.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and proper use of PPE.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods on concrete, wood, metal, or fiberglass platforms.
  • Ability to navigate inclines, ramps, stairs, uneven ground, and walkways throughout production areas.
  • Ability to reach, bend, crouch, stoop, climb, and maintain balance as tasks require.
  • Ability to use hands and arms for handling tools, operating equipment, grasping materials, performing repetitive motions, and maintaining manual dexterity.
  • Ability to operate or work near machinery and mechanical components.
  • Ability to maintain visual acuity required for reading measurements, inspecting materials, reviewing documents, and operating tools or equipment safely.
Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing warehouse environment with exposure to loud noise, temperature fluctuations, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and production byproducts, all within OSHA-permissible limits. Work areas may include concrete surfaces, inclines, ramps, metal platforms, and uneven ground, with regular movement around machinery, equipment, tools, forklifts, and production lines. Some tasks may be performed outdoors or between buildings depending on production needs. Designated PPE is required, and safety training is provided in accordance with OSHA regulations, company policy, and industry standards.
