Packaging Material Handler
Location: Hanover, Pennsylvania
Shift: C Shift | 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM on a rotating AWS schedule (4 days on, 4 days off)
Starting Pay: $20.45/hour
HOW YOU WILL MAKE HISTORY HERE
As a Packaging Material Handler, you will play a critical role in supporting production operations by ensuring packaging materials, finished goods, and supplies are moved efficiently throughout the facility. Your attention to safety, organization, and material flow helps keep production running smoothly while supporting product quality and operational excellence.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Read production schedules to determine materials and products that need to be moved, staged, or distributed.
- Weigh and count materials to ensure accuracy and compliance with company standards.
- Visually verify products and materials before transporting them between production and warehouse areas.
- Operate material handling equipment, when applicable, to transport materials safely throughout the packaging department and facility.
- Support waste removal and waste tracking activities within the packaging area.
- Inspect product loads for accuracy and safely move materials to ensure timely delivery to production lines.
- Transport materials and packaging supplies using manual pallet jacks and other approved equipment.
- Position lifting devices under, around, or over loaded pallets, skids, and containers, securing materials for transport.
- Open bales, crates, and containers and properly dispose of cardboard, plastic wrap, and strapping materials.
- Move portable equipment from storage areas to production floors and assist with equipment setup.
- Load and unload materials from pallets, skids, platforms, vehicles, and other transport equipment manually or mechanically.
- Operate or assist with automatic stacking, loading, packaging, or cutting equipment as required.
- Perform general housekeeping duties, including sweeping floors, retrieving pallets, organizing workspaces, and distributing materials to proper locations.
- Ensure recyclables are properly sorted and placed in designated containers while supporting 5S initiatives.
- Mark materials with identifying information when required.
- Assist with packaging operations and other production support activities as directed.
- Maintain clean work areas, store supplies in designated locations, and keep aisles and exits free from obstruction.
- Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety requirements, and safety procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAVE (NICE TO HAVE)
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of manufacturing, production, warehouse, or material handling experience.
- Experience operating pallet jacks or material handling equipment.
- Experience working in a food manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety standards.
- Experience supporting inventory control, material movement, or warehouse operations.
- Familiarity with 5S, continuous improvement, or lean manufacturing principles.
Physical & Work Environment
- Continuous standing, walking, hand use, visual attention, and material handling throughout the shift.
- Frequent reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and carrying activities.
- Occasional climbing, ladder use, and operation of material handling equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and assist with heavier loads when required.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment and loud manufacturing environments.
- Frequent exposure to wet and humid conditions.
- Occasional exposure to elevated work areas, airborne particles, and cleaning chemicals.
- Required use of appropriate PPE and adherence to all workplace safety and food safety standards.
Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation.
