Packaging Machine Operator Location: Hanover, Pennsylvania Shift: A or C Shift | 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM on a rotating AWS schedule (4 days on, 4 days off) Starting Pay: $25.50/hour

HOW YOU WILL MAKE HISTORY HERE…

As a Packaging Machine Operator, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality products to our customers by safely and efficiently operating packaging equipment. Your attention to quality, troubleshooting expertise, and commitment to continuous improvement help ensure products are packaged accurately while maintaining production efficiency and food safety standards.

WHAT YOU WILL DO…
  • Maintain shift documentation, including metal detector checks and batch order verifications.
  • Read and interpret production schedules using MicroStrategy.
  • Print labels using various printers and programs; clean and adjust printers as needed.
  • Perform nitrogen testing and other quality checks.
  • Monitor packaging machinery to ensure correct codes, dates, and pricing information.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of roll stock and packaging materials.
  • Set up and program bag-making equipment.
  • Create and edit machine settings and micro logic to support efficient, low-waste operations.
  • Create and modify code dates.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and equipment adjustments.
  • Calibrate and adjust scales, linkages, and packaging equipment components.
  • Operate packaging equipment, including baggers, scales, conveyors, seal checkers, case packers, case sealers, and robotic cells.
  • Plan and execute efficient machine changeovers between product runs.
  • Monitor and adjust machines to ensure proper film cut-off and seal quality.
  • Ensure machines are operating at established production standards and speeds.
  • Monitor product appearance and comply with weight control requirements.
  • Perform bag weight checks every 20 minutes and inspect products for quality concerns.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve packaging quality issues.
  • Sort and rework acceptable product from run-off as required.
  • Maintain clean machines and work areas through routine sanitation and housekeeping.
  • Report equipment issues promptly to maintenance technicians or supervisors.
  • Follow all safety, food safety, hygiene, and housekeeping procedures.
  • Store supplies in designated locations and keep aisles and exits clear.
  • May provide leadership and direction to Packers.
  • May serve as a Back-Up Packaging Coordinator or other skilled production roles.
  • May monitor and replenish seasoning systems to ensure proper product coverage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work overtime as required to support production needs.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE…
  • (MUST HAVE) Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to safely operate manufacturing and packaging equipment. Ability to perform machine setups, changeovers, adjustments, and basic maintenance activities. Strong attention to detail with a focus on product quality and food safety. Ability to work in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Ability to follow written procedures, production schedules, and safety guidelines. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, twist, and stand for extended periods. Willingness to work overtime during the week and on weekends based on production requirements. Commitment to teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAVE… (NICE TO HAVE)
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of production experience in a manufacturing environment. Previous experience operating packaging equipment in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with automated equipment, robotic cells, or case packing equipment. Knowledge of MicroStrategy or other production management systems.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance and equipment troubleshooting. Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.

Physical & Work Environment Continuous standing, hand use, visual focus, and fine motor movements throughout the shift. Frequent walking, bending, reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, overhead work, squatting, kneeling, and climbing activities. Continuous repetitive twisting and manual manipulation of equipment and packaging materials. Frequent reading, writing, concentration, comprehension, and problem‑solving while monitoring equipment and product quality. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds continuously, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds frequently. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally with assistance and over 100 pounds seldom with assistance. Regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment and manufacturing machinery. Frequent exposure to wet and humid production environments. Occasional exposure to elevated work areas, airborne particles, and cleaning chemicals. Work is performed in a loud manufacturing environment requiring appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Fast‑paced production environment focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job‑related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation.
