Description

Packaging Machine Operator – 1st Shift
Location: Saint Anthony, MN
Hours: 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Days: Monday – Friday

Job Summary:

The Packaging Machine Operator (PMO) is responsible for maintaining the quality and output quantity of the packaging machinery. This includes set-up, changeovers, shut-down, draining, routine checks, and maintaining operating efficiency. Additional responsibilities include basic adjustments, minor troubleshooting, retrieving and returning film and supplies, performing scheduled Quality Assurance (QA) checks, and preparing machines ahead of production needs.

Major Job Duties:
  • Assure that the packaging machines are running at set quantity and proper quality specifications.

  • Set up, complete changeovers, shut down, and/or drain the packaging machines according to the production schedule.

  • Perform minor maintenance work to keep the packaging equipment running.

  • Report problems that cannot be repaired in 10 minutes to the supervisor immediately.

  • Keep machinery and staging areas supplied with film and changeover parts.

  • Assist other PMOs as needed with changeovers, absences, breaks, or any other assistance needed to maintain production.

  • Keep a log for each machine, recording all machine downtime.

  • Minimize downtime and material waste.

  • Perform all required quality checks and record data accordingly.

  • Maintain continuous monitoring of machinery.

  • Perform any other related duties as directed by the supervisor.

  • Keep work area neat and clean.

  • Retrieve needed supplies (film, etc.)

Job Qualifications:

Must have mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills. Must be able to read and follow schedules and operate packaging equipment accordingly. Should be a team player and work well under pressure. Familiarity with Accumulators, vibratory conveyors, Ishida scales, Woodman II and Polaris E packaging machines, Mark-em code daters, Belcor box folders and sealers, Zebra printers, roll stock, and related scanning/testing equipment is required. High school - Diploma or GED.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Ability to operate and maintain packaging machines with limited downtime to company specifications.

  2. Able to make minor repairs and/or adjustments quickly and safely.

  3. Able to clearly explain problems or at least symptoms to co-workers, maintenance personnel, or supervisors.

  4. Ability to function in a cooperative environment.

  5. Maneuver around machinery 100% of the workday.

  6. Climb ladders/stairs as needed throughout the day.

  7. Lift heavy, even or uneven loads weighing up to 50 pounds.

  8. Bend or squat up to 25% of the workday.

  9. Work in awkward or tight work areas.

  10. Maneuver cautiously on slippery floor surfaces.

  11. Work on elevated platforms.

  12. Work in hot, humid, cold, noisy, wet, and odorous environments.

  13. Use hands and arms outstretched from body or overhead.

  14. Hear and communicate respectfully with others in noise, to ensure quality and safety.

  15. Successfully complete safety training and adhere to all requirements including Lockout/Tagout.

  16. Work up to 40 hours per week or more if needed.

  17. Must have dependable attendance.

  18. Must be willing and able to work as a team.

  19. Work safely with and troubleshoot moving machinery.

  20. Maintain authorization to operate lift trucks and scissor lift.
