Job description

Summary

Under the direct clinical supervision of the cardiothoracic surgery physicians, functions as a surgical first assistant for cardiac and thoracic procedures, performs vein harvest for bypass procedures, and assists the surgeons with pre and post operative care of patients. This may include, but is not limited to, coordinating and ordering pre‑surgical testing, rounding on inpatients, and performing procedures such as thoracentesis and chest tube placements.

Education

Four years of formal training or education beyond the high school level (e.g., Bachelor's Degree).

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Certificate Program is required. Maintains required CME's.

Certification, Registration, and Licensure

Certification required: National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Licensure required: Physician Assistant in the State of NH.

Experience

Surgical experience preferred, specifically in endoscopic vein harvest.

Responsibilities

• Provides in-hospital patient care.
