Job summary

City of Gainesville, GA is seeking staff for the Chattahoochee Golf Course to support both maintenance and golf operations. The role involves operating golf course equipment, mowing greens and fairways, aerating turf, and assisting with irrigation and chemical applications as needed.

Employees may be assigned to Maintenance or Operations based on needs and will be supervised by the appropriate golf course leadership.

Responsibilities

• Monitors pace of play and enforces course policies.
• Assists with tournaments and special events.

Job description

This position is designated as safety-sensitive. As such, a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening are mandatory. The incumbent will also be subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout the duration of employment.

Performs semi-skilled work in support of Chattahoochee Golf Course operations. Employees may be assigned to Golf Course Maintenance or Golf Operations depending on operational needs. Assignments are supervised by the appropriate department supervisor.

Performs semi-skilled work in a variety of areas. Duties include operating vehicles and equipment in either a specific or a variety of maintenance, construction, or utility tasks.

When Assigned to Golf Course Maintenance

• Mows fairways, tees, roughs and greens.
• Does trim work using string cutter.
• Aerates tees, greens, fairways and roughs.
• Trims and removes trees.
• Maintains bunkers.
• Assists in applying pesticides and fertilizers.
• Assists in maintenance and repair of irrigation systems.
• Assists in maintenance of clubhouse grounds, parking lots and entrance roadways.
• Supervised by the Golf Course Superintendent.
• Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

When Assigned to Golf Operations

• Prepares, cleans, stages, stores, fuels/charges, and organizes golf carts.
• Stocks carts with scorecards, pencils, sand bottles, towels, and supplies.
• Assists golfers with bags and maintains the cart staging area.
• Picks the driving range and maintains the practice facility.
• Greets golfers and verifies tee times.
• Starts groups according to the tee sheet.
• Monitors pace of play and enforces course policies professionally.
• Assists with tournaments and special events.
• Supervised by the Head Golf Professional.
• Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

This position is considered safety sensitive.

Education and Experience:

• Ability to read and write.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid Class C Driver's License preferred and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the care and proper use of tools and equipment used in the development and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, hazards, and general grounds of a golf course.
• Ability to quickly learn maintenance, care, and construction of greens, tees, fairways, hazards, bunkers, irrigation systems, and the general grounds of a golf course.
• Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about turf disease, insects and rodents, and chemicals and methods used to control these undesirable elements.
• Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn basic rules of golf etiquette.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public.
• Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
• Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Must be able to distinguish between different chemical materials, with the ability to read and understand label information.
• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.
