E2 Consulting Engineers, LP is seeking a Substation Design Engineer for California electric utility projects. You will design substation protection & control and physical layouts, delivering comprehensive diagrams, cable schedules, and bill of materials.

Responsibilities include CAD drawings, QA/QC reviews, and electrical calculations. Collaboration with project managers and clients is essential; field support may be required when needed.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 5–8 years of experience in substation design or similar with electric utilities or consulting firms.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design substation protection & control deliverables including diagrams and wiring; prepare field notes, drawings, specs, and estimates.
• QA/QC review of designs and drawings prepared by junior engineers to ensure quality.
• Produce CAD drawings and calculations for complex projects with attention to detail and minimal errors.
• Perform electrical calculations (AC/DC load, conduit, bus sizing, grounding) for auxiliary systems.
• Coordinate with project manager, client, and others; attend job-site meetings as needed; provide field support during construction.

About the Organization

E2 Consulting Engineers, LP (E2) is a professional services firm established in 1988 specializing in a full spectrum of engineering services including project engineering and design, federal base operations and infrastructure support services, gas pipeline construction and inspection services, environmental consulting and remediation, and information technology services.

Overview

The Substation Design Engineer will be responsible for the design of deliverables associated with substation projects supporting one of our largest electric utility clients in Southern California. The substation Protection & Control design deliverables include one-line & three-line diagrams, AC & DC elementary & logic diagrams, front & rear panel elevations and wiring, supervisory & control drawings, electrical vendor equipment wiring diagrams, complete cable schedule and bill of materials. The substation physical design deliverables include general arrangement drawings, electrical equipment plan & elevation drawings, above & below grade conduit & grounding drawings, relay house layout and complete bill of materials. The candidate will report directly to the Substation Design Manager.

Responsibilities

• Performs substation P&C and/or physical design, including the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and estimates.


• Performs careful QA/QC review activities submitted by junior engineers to ensure a quality product.


• Prepares computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors.


• Perform engineering calculations such AC and DC load calculations required to properly size auxiliary systems.


• Perform engineering calculations such as conduit and bus sizing, lighting & lightning analysis, and grounding grid analysis.


• Ensure all designs conform to client and industry standards.


• Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client, and others as needed.


• Utilize client and/or company information system to track and update design activities.


• Attend job site meetings to gather scope of work.


• May provide field support during construction.


• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.


• 5-8 years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.


• Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).


• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.


• Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

• Professional Engineer’s License in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required.


• Experience with substation design and construction standards for electric utilities in California is highly desirable.

Wage Data Per State Requirements

Salary will be between $105,000 to 130,000 per year, based on experience.
