Qualifications

  • Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute installation, testing, and maintenance of FACTS equipment.
  • Commissioning and design review support for new FACTS projects.
  • Provide on-site maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of FACTS devices.

Such devices and equipment includes but is not limited to digital relays, electromechanical relays, intelligent electronic devices, Station Disturbance Recorders (SDR), digital fault recorders (DFR), event recorders, RTU's and station SCADA systems, statistical load metering, telemetering and transducers. Additionally, install, maintain and operate all power line carriers (PLC), tone, pilot wire, fiber and associated P&C communications equipment. Respond to emergency call-outs and coordinate prompt restoration of service to customers as required. Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below.Job DescriptionPosted in a range of P&C Field Technologist -Senior roleWhat You’ll Do:Essential Job Functions & TasksResponsible for specialized and advanced work involved in planning, testing, receiving, storage, and repair of FACTS specific equipment. Serve as the FACTS SME for equipment such as control systems, cooling systems, power electronics and related equipment.Commissioning:AEP FACTS employees serve a key role during new projects assisting with the following: specification development, technical bid review/evaluation, design review, approve prints and other vendor documents, and commissioning the equipment in the field with support from local TFS.Operation and Maintenance:FACTS employees are responsible for providing oversight for local TFS crews in conducting preventative and corrective maintenance on FACTS Devices.This includes completing the annual work plan maintenance as well as field troubleshooting.This position will serve as one of the FACTS P&C field tech in the Eastern AEP footprint.The essential job functions for this position are listed below:Coordinate/Schedule the annual FACTS maintenance work plan.Provide on-site support and assistance necessary for the maintenance and repair of existing FACTS equipment.Develop maintenance plans, inspection reports, and other documentation to record the maintenance and repair activities of the FACTS fleet.Support AEP’s documentation plan and record keeping efforts as it relates to the FACTS/HVDC equipment.Procurement of replacement parts and manage warranty and service contact issues with vendors.Provide oversite for the installation and commissioning of new FACTS equipment.Lead in the investigation and remediation of equipment failures and operating events to ensure the reliability of FACTS equipment.Assist in the evaluation and performance analysis of FACTS equipment.Support new FACTS project activities from project specification and design through final in-service operation.Identify process improvement, asset renewal, and operational optimization plans for the existing FACTS devices.Promote and enforce the Company’s Accident Prevention and Safety & Health Programs.Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company’s Corporate Compliance Policy.This position requires some travel.
