Job Title: Overnight Youth Support Specialist
Department: Residential Services

Position Summary

The Overnight Youth Support Specialist is responsible for the overnight supervision and care of youth in agency living suites/cottages. This includes ensuring safety and well-being through regular checks, responding to emergent situations, providing crisis intervention, and supporting morning routines before school. The role requires staff to remain awake and alert at all times, effectively communicate with team members, and contribute to the multidisciplinary treatment team.

New Directions Youth & Family Services’ Residential Services program provides youth with safe, structured, and supportive living environments where staff guide their development, manage daily routines, and contribute to individualized treatment plans.

Professional Development Opportunities

We invest in our employees through supervision, trainings, and professional growth opportunities. Staff maintain certifications including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and First Aid/CPR, provided by the agency.

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities
  • Remain awake and alert throughout overnight shifts to ensure proper supervision and control of youth
  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to shift for transition of responsibilities
  • Conduct rounds and bed checks beginning at 10:30 p.m. and at least every 30 minutes thereafter, ensuring youth safety and well-being
  • Use youth’s Individual Crisis Management Plans (ICMP) or personal safety plans while providing therapeutic crisis intervention
  • Report disturbances or trespass to supervisors and maintain fire safety watch on duty
  • Supervise morning routines including wake-up, breakfast, cleanup, and school preparation
  • Observe youth’s emotional and behavioral needs and communicate observations to the treatment team
  • Complete required daily documentation, incident reports, logs, and updates before the end of shift
  • Communicate with day staff, school staff, and other relevant team members regarding youth well-being
  • Dispense prescribed medications and document on Medication Administration Records (MAR)
  • Perform light cleaning during overnight shifts and ensure living areas are safe, tidy, and secure
  • Participate in treatment planning to support youth’s development of self-regulation
  • Maintain TCI, First Aid/CPR certifications and attend required trainings and supervision
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors

Requirements

  • Ability to collaborate with youth, families, staff, and community partners from diverse backgrounds
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to function as part of a team
  • Crisis intervention and judgment skills to support youth in challenging situations
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining team coordination
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED (required)
  • Degree in Human Services or related field (preferred)
  • Previous experience in child care or youth support (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license, adequate auto insurance, and ability to meet agency driving criteria
  • Ability to pass an annual physical per agency health policy (Category 3 classification)
  • Compliance with agency safety standards and healthy work environment practices
