Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield Township, IL, is hiring experienced Overnight Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. Schedule: 7am-7pm with pay from $23.20–$43.70/hour, plus competitive shift differentials.

Qualifications

• Experience as an Emergency Veterinary Technician.
• Licensed/vet tech credentials preferred depending on local licensing.
• Ability to induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia.
• Proficiency with radiography and venous access; CPR readiness.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients using monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases and obtain vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and positioning.
• Understand normal vital sign ranges and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs; initiate CPR if needed.
• Place and maintain IV catheters and feeding tubes as needed.
• Mentor and train other team members and address client concerns.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Overnight Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department.

Schedule: 7am-7pm

Pay $23.20 - $43.70/hour

*This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $4.00
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $4.00
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.50

At BluePearl Pet Hospital, the role of Veterinary Technician is an exciting, fast-paced opportunity that will allow you to utilize the skills that you have worked so hard to gain. We will also give you the chance to expand and grow your skills, all while working alongside some of the most talented veterinary professionals.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
