Job summary

Hy-Vee in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking an Overnight Stocker to keep shelves full and organized for the morning hours. You will unload trucks, stock shelves, rotate product and ensure the backroom is orderly, supporting a smooth overnight operation.

This physically demanding role requires teamwork, safety adherence, and the ability to lift heavy items. High school diploma or equivalent is required, with prior stock work preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and helping them find what they need.
• Assist customers with finding products and reach items, carrying heavy purchases, and relaying feedback.
• Unload trucks, stock shelves, rotate product, and keep backroom organized.
• Monitor for mis-picks and ensure freshness by rotating stock and reporting issues.
• Tag shelves, input new items, and work with teammates for overnight efficiency.
• Maintain Hy-Vee dress code, hygiene standards and company policies.
• Support in other store areas and assist with special projects as needed.
• Work with Store Director and managers to ensure smooth overnight operations.
• Operate safely in cooler/freezer environments and handle equipment as required.

What You'll Do

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and helping them find what they need
• Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and passing along any feedback or requests to the team
• Unload trucks, open containers, stock shelves, run overstock on risers, and rotate product to ensure freshness
• Monitor for mis-picked items, product outs, and wrong deliveries, and report issues accordingly
• Organize stock for greatest efficiency and clean and restock any damaged items
• Tag shelves with overstock in the back room and understock drawers
• Report new or different items to the scanning coordinator for system input
• Work alongside your teammates to ensure a smooth, efficient overnight operation
• Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed

You’ll receive direction and support from: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Perishables, Store Operations, and E-commerce, and Overnight Stock Manager

Your Skills

• Follow written and verbal instructions with confidence
• Use basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages
• Communicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful way
• Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy overnight shift
• High school diploma or equivalent required; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred

Reporting Relationships

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Perishables, Store Operations, and E-commerce, and Overnight Stock Manager

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Up to six months of similar or related work experience preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistance
• Continuously stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment (required operator certification must be completed prior to independent use)
• Work in cooler or freezer environments for extended periods
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades to cut, trim, or grind product
• Where applicable to the role, and in accordance with applicable age and legal requirements: operate a cardboard baler or compactor
• Where applicable to the role: perform repetitive motions associated with dough mixing, scaling, and proofing
• Ability to unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandise

Working Environment

This is a physically demanding, hands-on role performed primarily during overnight hours. You may encounter daily exposure to dirt, noise, equipment movement hazards, and cleaning chemicals or solvents, with occasional exposure to temperature extremes and potential electrical shock. The role involves working with and around heavy store equipment. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
