Job summary

Hy-Vee Inc. is seeking an Overnight Stocker to support the Grocery department during overnight hours. You will help keep shelves full and organized, unload trucks, and rotate product to ensure freshness.

Training is provided for those new to the role, and teamwork is emphasized to ensure a smooth overnight operation. The position is hourly, with wage starting around $15.00–$18.75 per hour depending on experience, and requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and help them find what they need.
• Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and passing along feedback or requests to the team.
• Unload trucks, stock shelves, rotate products for freshness.
• Monitor for mis-picked items, product outs, and wrong deliveries, and report issues.
• Organize stock for efficiency and restock any damaged items.
• Tag shelves with overstock and restock drawers.
• Report new or different items to the scanning coordinator for system input.
• Work alongside teammates for a smooth overnight operation.
• Maintain Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards and company policies.

What You'll Do

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and helping them find what they need
• Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and passing along any feedback or requests to the team
• Unload trucks, open containers, stock shelves, run overstock on risers, and rotate product to ensure freshness
• Monitor for mis-picked items, product outs, and wrong deliveries, and report issues accordingly
• Organize stock for greatest efficiency and clean and restock any damaged items
• Tag shelves with overstock in the back room and understock drawers
• Report new or different items to the scanning coordinator for system input
• Work alongside your teammates to ensure a smooth, efficient overnight operation
• Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed

Reporting Relationships

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Perishables, Store Operations, and E-commerce, and Overnight Stock Manager

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required; up to six months of similar or related work experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistance
• Continuously stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment (required operator certification must be completed prior to independent use)
• Work in cooler or freezer environments for extended periods
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades to cut, trim, or grind product
• Where applicable to the role, and in accordance with applicable age and legal requirements: operate a cardboard baler or compactor
• Where applicable to the role: perform repetitive motions associated with dough mixing, scaling, and proofing
• Ability to unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandise

Work Environment

This is a physically demanding, hands-on role performed primarily during overnight hours. You may encounter daily exposure to dirt, noise, equipment movement hazards, and cleaning chemicals or solvents, with occasional exposure to temperature extremes and potential electrical shock. The role involves working with and around heavy store equipment. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.

The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $15.00 to $18.75 depending on experience.
