Job summary

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation, owner and operator of Monticello, seeks a Full-Time Security Officer for the 3rd shift (12:00am–8:30am) in Charlottesville, VA. The role provides safety and security for Foundation properties, staff, and up to 300,000 guests annually, with a shift differential during overnight hours.

Responsibilities include patrols, alarm monitoring, and emergency response; you will work independently, communicate clearly, and use MS Office tools.

Qualifications

• Security patrols and alarm monitoring responsibilities.
• Ability to respond to emergencies with sound judgment.
• Excellent oral and written communication required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license required.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and navigate stairs/small spaces.

Responsibilities

• Conduct security patrols of Foundation properties and monitor access points.
• Respond to alarms and emergencies; coordinate with staff and law enforcement as needed.
• Maintain safety and security posture during events and adverse weather.
